PRINT INFORMATION

The enlarged image views show you how a print will look when you receive it. That is, the image on paper will have a white border around it roughly in the proportion displayed. This is for the following reasons. It helps both you and the framer handle the print. It provides a larger area for attaching matting and not contacting the image area. It gives me an area to add my signature, print number, and a title. And finally, I think that it looks good, even if you don't want to add a custom matte it frames the image nicely. So the Print Size is the actual paper size, which includes both the white border and the image. If you don't want my signature or the image info to show when you display the print, then you can cover it up with a custom matte.

The original image was either captured on fine grained 50 or 100 ISO 35 mm films, or lately with a similar format high resolution digital camera. The images are then usually printed "Full Frame", or as 100% of the image area. This produces a more rectangular enlargement compared to a common print format and frame size of 8x10, 11x14, 16x20, etc.. So, with my print sizes, there is usually no cropping done by me when made and so the final composition of the image was done in the camera, in the field, as I saw the scene. But with some images, especially panorama formats, I may do some creative cropping when I feel that it best represents my view or to best aid the composition of the scene.

I also do some light retouching to correct for dust, images flaws and to maximize the final print's colour and contrast. On some images, I do use creative filters over the lens to help achieve what my instinct sees at that moment. Filters are part of my creative tool set, as are my lenses, which all help me create certain visions or viewpoints. My darkroom is now at the computer, and as a painter uses a a variety of brushes and paints and canvases, the various tools of hardware and software allow me to further create what my senses saw when in the field. Some images did not require the use of many creative tools or techniques and some did.

The prints that you may purchase, are made from my digital version, either as a file from scanned film or a raw digital camera file, and these are printed onto various paper types of my choosing. The prints are always extremely archival and faithful to the original image file in terms of sharpness, colour and contrast. I am strive to provide the best and yet affordable print process that I can, in order to meet both my and your critical needs for archival quality, value and the artistic reproduction of my work.

I stand by the archival quality of these prints and if there is any image degradation while displayed by you under normal viewing condtions, I will replace the affected print. You or a recipient of my prints as your gift, will need to take some care with how the print is displayed and a display information guide will be included with each print to help you. ANY claim of print degradation will be seriously considered and I hope that this warranty is not abused. Like any quality product, it will last a lifetime with proper handling, display and normal environmental care. I don't want you to be an unhappy customer, and I will respectfully work with you to achieve your satisfaction should any problem arise.

I hope that you enjoy viewing my images and prints as much as I did in making them, and I sincerely Thank You for your support.

Regards,

Alec Pytlowany
